8 FUN FACTS OF HEARING

1.       The smallest bones in human body are in the middle ear. They are incus, malleus, and stapes.

2.       Our ears never stop hearing, even when we are sleeping. The brain just ignore incoming sounds.

3.       Earwax production is necessary for good ear health. There is no need to clean your earwax. Your ears push excess wax out as needed.

4.       Sense of hearing depends on tiny hairs (hair cells) in the ears. These hair cells translate sound waves to electrical signals and send them to the brain. If we lose these hairs, we will lose our hearing.

5.       Snakes hear using jawbones, fish use ridges on their bodies, and male mosquitoes use antennae.

6.       Human ears can differentiate hundreds of thousands of different sounds.

7.       Ear are not just for hearing, they are also responsible for the equilibrium and balance of the body.

8.     Sounds travels at the speed of 1130 feet per second.
